What is a Horoscope-a Small Introduction Into Astrology
“I’m Capricorn, you’re Leo, my mother is Taurus and the neighbor is Aquarius.”
Does this sound familiar? I believe so.
Nowadays, most of us know our zodiacal sign and the interest we have for this subject is continuously growing. But how many of us actually know what a horoscope and a chart are?
The answer: few! This is why so many questions and interpretations get born, a thing that ultimately leads to the defamation of astrology. You don’t need to be an astrologer to know some things about astrology, some elements that will help you.
This article was made for the specific purpose of explaining briefly and without details, what a horoscope is and what are the main components of a chart.
First of all, what does it mean that I’m Capricorn and you’re Leo? The basic zodiacal sign we keep talking about is given by the Sun’s position at birth. Therefore, I’m Capricorn because the Sun was in Capricorn when I was given birth. You can identify this when you make a chart. The chart represents the astral map of an entity (individual, community etc.) at a certain time. It contains a lot of elements that help at making a horoscope or an astrologic analysis.
For making a horoscope or an astrologic analysis you need three elements:
- The zodiacal sign
- The planets
- The astrological houses
At all this you can add a lot of other elements that bring more information.
The planets
There are 10 planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) and they represent a certain characteristic of an individual, a certain type of energy.
For example, the Sun represents our basic personality, our ego, the conscious, while the Moon represents our subconscious and emotions. So when I say I’m Capricorn, I actually say that my basic personality has all of Capricorn’s characteristics. But the fact that I have the Moon in Pisces, for example, makes my emotions similar to the zodiacal sign of Pisces.
The same way, Mercury represents the mentality, the way we think and communicate; Venus represents the feeling and the things we like, while Mars represents our basic energy.
The planets form between themselves many angles and relations. These relations can be: harmonically (those of 60,120,0 degrees) and un-harmonically (45,90,180 degrees).
The zodiacal signs
There are 12 zodiacal signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces) and I’m sure you know them very well. They represent certain characteristics that have a strong influence on the planets. A Moon in Aries will be totally different then a Moon in Libra.
The astrological houses
The 12 astrological houses symbolize the activity sectors in every person’s life. These are being calculated according to the hour and the place of birth. These can have different sizes (in degrees).
For example, the 7th house symbolizes the partner, marriage, contractual relationships etc. The 10th is the house of carrier and social elevation.
About the houses, there is an aspect that was a mandatory role: the first grade of a house is called cusps (or cuspis). There are 4 big cusps: the Ascendant (1st house), the Middle of the sky (10th house), the Descendant (7th house) and the Bottom of the sky (4th house).
The one most known is the Ascendant, which according to the zodiacal sign it’s in, it symbolizes the qualities one must gain during this lifetime.
To make an astrological analyze, one must count all this factors plus a lot of others a thing that depends on each astrologer in part.
The idea of this article was to show you that each individual is unique in its own way and not all from the same zodiacal sign are the same. Also the prediction on TV or on the newspapers even thought they might be correct, don’t apply to all during that period of time.

Even in ancient times astrology helped people find the good and bad places for them on earth, it was based on calculation and conformity of signs, houses and squares to the four sides of the earth.. The most attention was paid to analysis of the sign’s quality and the qualities of the researched places in the country.
In the 20th century the activity of discovery in astrology increased so that astrology started to use the geocentric model (the geocentric model of the universe is the theory that the Earth is at the center of the universe and the Sun and other celestial objects go around it.), astrocartography (Astrocartography is an astrological system, developed and popularized by American astrologer Jim Lewis), and local space methods.
Here is a list of all the methods concerning the analysis of the space quality:
1. The analysis of the signs’ quality and the qualities of the country/place.
2. The analysis of the planet quality (especially in the ninth and fourth houses) and the quality of the country/place.
3. The analysis of consistency between the signs, houses, and squares to the sides of earth.
4. The geocentric method.
5. The astrocartography method.
6. A method of the local space, Local Space.
If the geocentric method can be considered a brand new method in the 20th century then the astrocartography method became the result of traditional-logical development of the time of K.Ptolemeja (1 century AD), like the planet is stronger at the top of the rising horoscope. Modern computer techniques have only proven the old axioms with convenient graphic diagrams. The same is true about the methods of the local space, in fact even before its creation everybody knew where East and West was in the horoscope. The modern astrological program can display on the map of the earth the surface of lines, where the particular planet is in the significant points of the horoscope (top, rising, aspect, position of the axis of horoscope) or on the significant direction (Local Space).
By knowing the place of the planet in the individual horoscope, it is possible to reveal favorable and not favorable sites of the space for the person. Usually the search includes places that are favorable for residence, for rest, for work, and for adjustment of private life. However, this can not be limited; the wishes of fans of the extreme life can be considered too.
The grid of lines of the planets can be put on the whole continent, on the country, on the city, or even on a single apartment. Unlike the now-popular feng shui, here everything has astrological substantiations under themselves proven by the mathematical way from the individual horoscope.
The presentation and beauty of space astrology cannot leave anybody uncaring. It seems that in this area of astrology we can expect big progress as in the growth of the already existing techniques and the development of new ones. But even those tools that we have now allow us to understand and explain a lot.

To understand how Saturn is your teacher, we need to look at the
twelve houses of astrology.
Each house in astrology represents an area of your life: first
house, for personality, second house for personal finances,
third house for thinking and learning, fourth house for home and
family, fifth house for love and romance, sixth house for work
and health, seventh house for relationships and partnerships,
eighth house for sex and creditors, ninth house for religion and
higher education, tenth house for career and ambition, eleventh
house for friends and associates, and the twelfth house for
meditation and the unconscious.
Whatever house Saturn is in in your birth chart, this is where
you have the greatest lessons to learn. Saturn is our teacher,
but most of us avoid the lessons it is trying to teach us.
Saturn reveals our primary fear. This is why we don’t want to
deal with what he is always trying to get us to learn. There is
basically no way to avoid Saturn’s lessons. So, the sooner we
embrace what it is that we need to learn, the better off we will
be.
For example, if Saturn in your birth chart falls in the second
house of personal finances, you have the challenge and the
demand to handle your finances in a responsible manner. If you
do not, you will be jolted by the consequences. This will be
hard for you because you will not want to be responsible for
your finances. This tendency of avoidance is inherent in your
birth. In fact, you might say that Saturn is always uncovering
what we are trying to avoid.
Here’s another example. If Saturn is found in your seventh house
of partners and relationships, you will not like the idea of
being married and taking on all the responsibilities that come
with this commitment. You may even become a monk or nun to avoid
the demand of a close relationship. But, eventually you will be
challenged to learn all about marriage and probably end up doing
it several times just to make sure you get the lesson. Once you
get it right — find a real partner — you have learned the
lesson of Saturn, which is to intimately embrace your partner
and be happy in doing so.
The lessons of Saturn are not easy, but if you are willing to
take on the demands and become responsible in that area of life
where he is located, then you will overcome your primary fear
and learn a very profound lesson.
After all, Saturn is your teacher.
